DIY Floating Wall-Hanging

Today's post is inspired by this photo I found on Pinterest:

I loved the look of the floating words in the frame. (Not to mention the wall color...) So off to Michael's I went and what did I find? A whole NEW section devoted to wood frames, cut-outs, shapes, letters, and words. I hit the jackpot!!

It was hard to choose just a few pieces from the fantastic collection. I knew I wanted to hang them in my living room so I tried to match the basic style and decor that I already have.

Materials:

I have mentioned I like easy projects, right? Well this one definitely qualifies!

Step 1: Spray paint all the pieces

My super-fancy spray painting setup

Step 2: Decide on arrangement and hang

I used tiny brad nails to hang the frames and glued (yes, glued!!) the words and birdhouse, then supported them until dry with a barely pushed in nail. I sparingly used craft glue so I knew I wouldn't be completely destroying the wall. And the wall has a stucco texture so it won't show much when I take it down. Other (maybe better) options would  be to hang the floating pieces from the frame using fishing line or use tiny nails.

I'm super-happy with the way the project turned out. The style and colors perfectly match the surrounding decor and I have a beautiful focal point. AND the entire project was around $30!!

  11. A bird for me! Really Cheryl, you shouldn't have. :)

I saw these laser cut frames too, stood there and pondered, then moved on. I am so glad you found a project for them and it turned out so well.
