DIY Gold-tipped Feathers

I recently made a very exciting purchase -  a Silhouette Cameo. I have been wanting a cutter like this for a while so I did some research and decided on the Cameo bundle set from Amazon. Let me tell you... this thing rocks!!! I have only had it a few weeks but I have already made many projects.

Today's project was inspired by the gold-tipped feathers I saw on the One Kings Lane website. You find them here, here, and here.

The feather template I used was free from the Silhouette Online Store (every week they have a free pattern) All I needed for materials was cardstock from Michael's, gold paint, a paintbrush, thin wooden dowels, and my hot glue gun.

I created varying sized feathers on several colors of cardstock using the Cameo. After gently removing the feather from the cutting mat, I hot glued it along the wooden dowel for support and also as a kind of "stem" since I wanted to put them in a vase.

Next I added the gold paint. I did variations of dry-brushing, painting down the spine, painting only the tips, etc.

I like the mix of bold colors and metallic gold. These are good for accenting an arrangement, in a frame or shadowbox, or just on a canvas as I chose to display them.

    1. You need a Silhouette Cameo or a feather? The feather I can do. The Silhouette is a little out of my budget ;-)
