Target Inspired Wall Art

A few weeks ago this wall art from Target popped up on my Instagram feed. They were asking how people would style it. Well, of course, my first thought was "I can make that!"

My list of materials was short and simple:

wooden skewers //  hot glue gun // Krylon gold spray paint

** side note: I found thin wooden dowels after I had finished this project that would work also **

I began by laying a foundation of skewers all facing the same direction but with varying space between and varying angles.Then I laid more skewers on top at angles in the opposite direction forming a cross-hatch of sorts and glued. I continued to layer the skewers in different directions until I had the pattern I was looking for, hot gluing as I went. * Finally, I spray painted the entire piece gold.

A Hit and a Miss

Do you want the good news or bad news first? I'm going to give you the bad...

 I bought this beautiful dress. I LOVE IT!! But it just was the tiniest bit too snug in the shoulders. I thought about keeping it as a goal dress but decided to just return it. There will other fabulous dresses right?? Right??!!!! This one was a miss. (The photo really doesn't do it justice)

On to the good news! These shoes... I mean, do I even need words? Here are a few: gorgeous, sexy, fun, colorful, perfection. Need I say more? Obviously these are a hit.

I got a little abstracted...

I am just now getting around to showing you my Black Friday purchases. I didn't really buy much for myself - just this abstract floral print dress from Target and a few necklaces from GroopDealz.

I ordered the dress using my new Target Red Card debit card. Do you have one yet? It works just like a debit card but you save 5% on every in-store and online purchase and shipping is always free. That's a win-win in my book!!

This outfit is perfect for the holidays. I can dress it up with some different shoes and a great clutch for a party or wear it as-is for our Christmas luncheon at work.

I've been trying to put together more casual outfits lately. They are not my forte. I do much better with work outfits and dressy looks. I think this one turned out fairly well. I like the mix of leopard and teal.

Shop your Closet challenge: Day 6 & Day 7

Day 6 of the challenge was to use all of the lessons we had learned so far and create work outfits. Thankfully, this one was a cinch for me! This was Monday which was a holiday. I didn't have to go to work so it was a no make-up Monday and I cropped my face out of these shots :-)

Day 7 was putting together three holiday looks incorporating texture and shine. Since the leader of this challenge lives on the West Coast I wasn't getting the assignments until I was already at work. This meant rushing home to put together the outfits each night after it was dark. My camera decided to act up for the last challenge and every photo I took focused on my feet instead of my whole body. Of course I didn't realize this until I was in pjs and uploaded them to my computer.

Sparkle and Shine

 I think I have mentioned before that I love glittery, sparkly clothing. I was able to work it into my shirt, necklace and shoes in this outfit. You can't tell in the photos, unfortunately, but this is a white sequin t-shirt. You can see it clearer in this post.  This Brighton silver heart necklace has rhinestones in it and these flats from Old Navy scream sparkle and shine.

Purple and Gold Homecoming

I'm heading to my hometown soon for Homecoming. My nieces will be marching in the parade and I'll be going to the football game for a mini-class reunion (I will NOT tell you how many years!!) Since I'll be seeing so many people I know,  I'm feeling the pressure to find a great outfit.

Thankfully, our colors are purple and gold (mustard) and those colors are definitely in season. I'm hoping it will be a little bit cool that night for the game so I'm opting for a long-sleeve shirt, jeans, a scarf, and booties.

Gray Leopard Blouse, Skinny Jeans, and Magenta Accents

 

We had absolutely gorgeous weather over the weekend. Chilly at night and in the morning, then warming up a bit during the day. No clouds in the sky at all... Perfect for some photos outside.

 

This leopard blouse is one of my go-to pieces. It's nice tucked in with a skirt as I wore it here and great worn un-tucked with skinny jeans. I really love gray and magenta together so I added some color to the look with a cardigan and some flats. I wish I had a colorful necklace but I think the black worked well. And of course, there had to be a bit of sparkle with my earrings and bow ring.

Sometimes you just can't beat the classic pairing of a burgundy dress and  leopard pumps and accessories. It's perfect as a work look or a night out. This Fall oxblood or burgundy is still a big fashion trend; and leopard has become a neutral that can be worn with anything. You could trade out the tie-belt for a leopard or black patent leather one and add a cardigan and tights when the weather turns chilly. The combinations are endless.

And, of course, the fact that this look is also Garnet and Gold makes it perfect for a FSU girl like me!

I wanted to add a pop of color for the Day 3 outfit. I was looking through my closet and saw the cranberry-colored cashmere sweater and knew that was it. I like how the burgundy heels were tied into the look by the cranberry top.

 

This sweater was one of my best clearance finds ever!

This week I'm doing a series that shows how versatile a skirt suit can be. Today's look is the basic suit - a blazer and skirt. Each day I will show a different look using the pieces.

 

At first I paired it with the black beaded necklace by itself but it didn't feel quite special enough so I added the brooch and it was perfect.

 

The colors in the suit will allow it to be paired so many different ways.
