DIY Cupcake Stand

I am so excited to bring this post to you today. Partly because I love the project and partly because I love the person I created the project for!

My friend, Ashley, is a fabulous baker and cook. On her blog, Spoonful of Flavor, she makes amazing food. Desserts, baked goods, salads, main dishes. One of her specialties is cupcakes so when I saw these cupcake stands I knew I had to make some for her.

3 inch wood candlestick // laser-cut wood disks // hot glue gun // acrylic paint // spray lacquer

I had a hard time finding the candlesticks in a store so I ended up ordering them from DC Woodcrafts on Etsy.  I wanted to put my own spin on the stands so I bought laser-cut disks from Michael's instead of plain ones.

Ashley wanted bright colors and specifically requested the aqua color I had painted my DIY Wooden Birds. I chose neon pink and canary yellow to go with it. I painted the disks and candlesticks first. It took A LOT of coats to get the even coverage I was looking for. Once they were dry, I hot glued the base to the disk. Then I gave them two coats of a spray lacquer.

I think these turned out really cute. I can't wait to see how Ashley uses them on her blog. They'll look even more fabulous with her amazing cupcakes on them!!
